Notes provided by: Susanne Owayda

Thanks to Suzanne for her draft notes which are much more accurate than my notes would have been. I have a few additions. First the commitment of the committee to conduct a full and open search for a new school superintendent is obvious. Official minutes of all meetings are to be posted on the schools website as soon as possible. Below is a draft of the meeting minutes as they have not been formally approved. There is going to be another subcommittee meeting soon to determine names of consultants to send the RFP to that was drafted at this meeting. There is another subcommittee meeting tentatively scheduled for April 10th at 10 am at the Community Safety Building.

Best, Colleen

DRAFT MINUTES NOT YET APPROVED

The Arlington School Committee Minutes of the Superintendent Search Subcommittee meeting Held on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 10:00am at the Community Safety Building

In attendance:

Suzanne Owayda, Chair Joani LaMachia Paul Schlichtman

Community Members: Colleen Kirby Cho Diane Mahon Call to Order: 10:10 am

Agenda Items:

Joani LaMachia moved to approve the meeting minutes of March 6, 2004, Paul Schlictman seconded motion. Minutes approved 3-0.

Reviewed the Request for Proposal for consultant services that was used in 1993 to assist the school committee in the Superintendent search. The 1993 RFP was used as starting point for writing the RFP that will be sent out for consultant services. Changes were made in some of the introductory wording, additions and deletions were made in the minimum criteria section of the RFP, and additions and deletions were made in the comparative criteria section of the RFP.

The RFP was written with the goal of attracting a broad range of firms who may be interested in this opportunity.

Motion made by Joani LaMachia and seconded by Paul Schlictman to present the reworded RFP to the full committee for review and approval. Motion passed 3-0.

As directed by the full School Committee at the 3/9/04 meeting we changed the timeline so that the consultant with community input would write the superintendent job description. See attached timeline.
